Singapore, Singapore

View of traditional buildings with modern tall builings in the back
MeganLebeau

While in Singapore, I did a lot of walking. I walked all over the city for two days. I can't deny that the heat and the intense humidity was overwhelming at times. I was fortunate to have enough time to visit many many things and to be accompanied by a few locals who were able to tell me a lot about the country. Some things I loved about Singapore was the modern aspect of it and the cultural diversity.

Little India in Singapore

I visited Little India, Chinatown, Orchard Road for some shopping, Universal Studios, Haji Lane and many heritage trails. I cannot deny the contrast in architecture in Singapore. You will often see a newly built skyscrapper right in front of a small, old building. Most of the downtown area is composed of incredible buildings that do not resemble in any way anything we would find in Montreal or even New York. There is something simply futuristic that creates some sort of cultural shock. I also had the chance to visit the exhibition Yayoi Kusama: Life is the Hear of a Rainbow.

Museum exposition

This exhibition was created by Yayoi Kusama, an artist who created art with dots, infinity nets and pumpkins. I found this exhibition amazing ! You could sense that every single art piece had a depth to it like it was more than just dots and pumpkins. I wouldn't suggest visiting Singapore on a budget because a lot of the activities require a ticket. However it is possible to walk around neighbourhoods like I did. In Singapore, the housing is done relatively differently than in other countries. Public housing, the most common and most realistically affordable, does not provide a big kitchen area. To compensate, the government implimented a lot of healthy takeout options at practically every corner.
